Below are some helpful hints to keep you motivated as you work towards your fitness goals.
Start by setting some smaller goals.
Goals that are realistic and achievable help build confidence. For example, if you are currently going for two walks a week, setting a goal for walking daily may be too big of a step. Start with adding in two extra walks over the next few weeks and build on that.
Write it down.
This could include keeping a schedule on your calendar, in your phone or on the fridge.
Exercise with a friend.
Then you have the opportunity to catch up as well as get a workout in.
Be clear about your reasons behind exercising more.
Will exercise help you to increase your confidence, allow you to be more active with the kids or help to manage your diabetes? If you understand WHY you want to exercise it will become more important and meaningful to you.
Choose something you enjoy.
If you enjoy the activity you choose, making it a part of your regular routine is a lot easier.
Mix it up – You don’t want your routine to become stale and boring. Regularly trying something new can help. There are new activities constantly popping up all over the place, from hula hoop classes to dancing in the dark.
Realise that no one is perfect.
If you fall off the horse, get back up. There will be times when life gets in the way. Acknowledge that and move forward.
